ZOUERAT

Zouerat is a city located in the north-central part of Mauritania, near the border with Western Sahara. It is known for being home to one of the largest iron ore mines in the world, which has been the driving force of the city's economy for several decades.

The city was founded in the 1960s to support the development of the iron ore mine, which is located about 25 km to the west of the city. The mine is owned by the state-owned mining company, SNIM, and is a major source of employment for the local population.
