BANC D'ARGUIN

Banc d'Arguin National Park is a protected area located in Mauritania, along the Atlantic coast. It was established in 1976 to preserve the unique ecosystem of the Banc d'Arguin, which is a coastal wetland that includes shallow waters, sand dunes, and islands.

The park covers an area of approximately 12,000 square kilometers and is considered one of the most important bird sanctuaries in the world, with over 2 million migratory birds stopping at the park each year. It is also home to a variety of marine and terrestrial wildlife, including dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, and various species of antelopes and gazelles.

The Banc d'Arguin National Park is particularly important for the conservation of the endangered Atlantic monk seal, which is one of the rarest marine mammals in the world. The park is also significant for its cultural heritage, as it has been inhabited by the Imraguen people for centuries, who are known for their traditional fishing practices.
